Roll Rules
The roll system of the Steelgreen Sirens FC on the Mateus server in the Crystal Data Center.
System
/random 20
At the beginning of each round, the DM will emote for the enemy/obstacle.
After the DM emotes, they will call for rolls.
DM emotes are always a success, unless otherwise mentioned. That way you do not have to use your emote as a defensive action, and can instead focus on your response to the attack/action.
The players will /random 20 or /dice 20.
After everyone participating has done a /random 20, the DM will call for the players to post at will. The players will emote based on their rolls; there are no attempts. Your success is dependant upon your roll. Post your roll number, (F), or (RoC) at the end of your post in parentheses. See below for explanations.
Rolling Results
If you rolled 1-10, the attack/action/move will not be successful. It is up to you to decide the severity of the failure. Inaction is not failure. You CAN emote an attack and miss and it will still count as a failure.
If you rolled 11-20, the attack/action/move will be a guaranteed success. It is up to you to decide how successful.
If you rolled 20, you will have the opportunity for a kill shot or severe bodily harm, if applicable. Please whisper the DM and ask permission before a kill shot. You can also share this with another player in a combo attack if you wish.
Emoting Rules
The player may emote immediately after the DM calls for posts. There is no post order and no attempts. The rolls dictate the character’s success and failure.
Please attempt to keep emotes to 1-2 posts for the sake of scroll.
At the discretion of the DM, there will be a strict 15 minute time limit for posts. If after the 15 minutes you have not posted, the DM will continue the scene.
The player is allowed to emote flavor texts so long as it is not considered a move or action, but keep large posts for your roll actions. If there are enough people at the event, flavor emotes will not be allowed to cut back on the scroll.
Keep all OOC chatter to OOC channels.
If you would like to do a combined attack or an action that involves more than just you, whisper the other party to make plans, and ask the DM for permission if one of the two parties rolled a failure.
At the END of your post, please put your roll in parentheses.
Free Action
Everyone will be allowed ONE free action!
Roll first. If your roll failure goes against your plans, or if your action is important to complete, whisper the DM that you’d like to use your free action!
Depending on what your action is, you might not be able to combo your free success with someone else who failed.
If you have an idea, sell it to the DM. You never know!
In place of your roll in parentheses at the end of your emote, just put an (F) to signify you’ve taken advantage of your free action.
Rule of Cool
The Rule of Cool is when you have a fantastic idea that you believe could make the story better, but your roll is not supportive of it. Offer it up to the DM! It isn’t a guarantee if it will be accepted, but if you come up with something mind-blowing, epic, or just plain hilarious, chances are we’ll let it pass, even if your roll does not reflect it. This will not eat up your Free Action ability!
This is not a replacement for when you fail a roll and want to succeed anyway. Half the fun is coming up with great stories even when you roll low!
In place of your roll in parentheses at the end of your emote, put (RoC) to signify that you’ve gotten DM approval for your Rule of Cool action.
Have Fun
Ultimately, we’re all in this to have fun. If you feel as if a failed roll will negatively impact your character in a way that does not make sense, please don’t hesitate to contact the DM in a whisper to let us know your concerns. We want everyone to have a great time, and the best recipe for that is communication!
Truth or Dare Dice
All participating players must /random 6
Highest roller asks lowest roller a question that must be answered truthfully
If they do not wish to answer, they may choose 'dare' instead
If there is a tie for the lowest roll, those with the duplicates will roll until tie is broken
If there is a tie for the highest roll, they will decide together what the truth or dare challenge will be
Fishing
Players will be asked to pick one of the 3 methods of catching fish: Fishing pole, Spear, or their bare hands.
Note that players CANNOT switch methods in the middle of the event.
Players are encouraged to play true to character, but honestly do what you think would be fun! This is a roleplay first type of event.
Before the countdown begins, judges will let players choose their fishing spots. Pole fishers to the edges of the water, spear fishers ankle deep, and noodlers will be up to the knee/hip. This helps the judges to visually see who is doing what, so point calculation is fair.
At the countdown, the lead will begin the tournament and the first round begins!
How to Play
Each round begins with the announcement to roll. Every fisher will roll [/random] and calculate their points based on their targets:
Fishing Pole - land a hit on 500+
500 - 699 = 1 points
700 - 899 = 2 points
900 - 999 = 3 points
Spear Fishing - land a hit on 700+
700 - 799 = 3 points
800 - 950 = 4 points
950 - 999 = 5 points
Noodling - land a hit on 800+
800 - 899 = 3 points
900 - 950 = 5 points
951 - 999 = 7 points
Special Conditions
Net Catch
Two special target numbers can net a player big points! Called the “Net Catch” if a player rolls either a 69 or a 420 they can emote swinging their fishing net to automatically catch a big fish!
These special catches are worth 7 points towards the players total score.
Fisher's Intuition
If a player rolls under 200 three rounds in a row they will be given a special roll for their next round.
A player with Fisher’s Intuition will roll a 1-7 [/random 7] and will receive points equal to the roll they make.
Minimum 1 point, maximum 7 points.
Fishing Tournament Rules
A fifteen minute timer will start after the roll phase to allow players to emote and RP their catches. Here you can post as little or as much as you like, as it’s based on your success or failure to catch a fish. No post order, no post limit, have fun with it!
Judges will pass through the fishers and emote watching their catches during the RP window! Here they will be collecting points from each member and tallying them on a leaderboard. After each round the current leading player will be announced!
Based on the timer and the tally system, there is a possibility of 4 rounds per hour. Depending on the length of the tournament there could be upwards of 8+ rounds! There is no point goal, but a leaderboard where the person with the most points at the end wins.
FAQ
What is a combo? A combo is when you and at least one other player decide to work together for a single outcome. Both emotes should bounce off of each other, and take into account what each person rolled. A success may pair with a failure, but remember you are sharing a story with a prompt. For example, the successful roll could save the failing roll. Or the successful roller could chuck the failing roller into the mouth of a monster. The possibilities are endless.
What is a failing emote? A failing emote is a roll that is 1-10. You are allowed to emote successfully striking your opponent, but it will not be effective. You can strike at your opponent and miss. You can fail in your swing and get injured. The sky is the limit. Remember, failure is not weakness, nor is it there to make your character look inept or incompetent. Every great action scene has a good struggle.
Can DMs change the rules? Yes! Examples of this would be changing the roll threshold of success for a round. Another would be offering a bonus for certain people and skills, such as characters that specialize as tanks get a bonus to blocking.
I feel lost and overwhelmed. What do I do? Speak to your DM. If you're unsure of what you can do in that particular round, reach out and they can give you a little nudge. Alternatively, speak to your teammates and partymates. A good story starts with good communication. A great way to help yourself out is to combo with others.
I have some concerns about this particular scene. I have certain triggers and phobias that might make things difficult for me. What do I do? If you, at any point, need to know about the scene, the storyline, the monsters, the setting, the DM will share all information with you without exception to put your fears at ease.
Have other questions? Reach out to your DM. They're there to help you.
